The work captures a moment of collective participation, reflecting the community’s traditions, beliefs, and cultural identity. Through this intimate scene, the painting highlights the importance of ritual, togetherness, and the preservation of ancestral practices passed down through generations.

This artwork depicts the entrance of a Mantang, a traditional Mishmi home, adorned with animal skulls earned through hunting. Each skull symbolizes the hunter’s courage, skill, and achievement, with tradition holding that a greater number reflects greater honour and glory. Through this imagery, the piece explores Mishmi identity and cultural heritage, illuminating the community’s deep, enduring relationship with the forest and the values embedded in their way of life.

A sprawling topographical world unfolds across layered, textured terrain with dense colonies of ants tracing contour-like paths through undulating fields of pink, olive, and rust. Mixed media and intricate hand-stitched detailing lend tactile depth, mimicking aerial cartography. At its heart, a bristling circular vortex pulses with energy, anchoring the composition, a meditation on collective labor, pattern, and the hidden architecture of nature.
